Why don't you save all your files and folders then delete the account and create a new one with the same name? It's a new "visitor" account or an account for another family member that won't work. It has no files and folders since no one can log in to it in the first place. My main account works fine, no point in messing with it. Also an "admin" account I created and the Windows official Administrator accounts work.

I used to be able to do this but something went south. Details required : characters remaining Cancel Submit 1 person found this reply helpful. For example no folders are created for the new user in Users folder. Therefor the "fix" where you transfer a known good account's user folders over to the new "bad" profile won't work because there is no new profile to copy to.

All solutions from MS or from Googling the issue mostly the same don't work since I do not see the folders or registry entries I'm supposed to see and edit, like with the regedit fix.

I have no S entries for my new account to edit. It's like I never went thru the "create new user" process. But I can see the S entries for existing working accounts. If my system is corrupt, can I fix this from the original install disc without breaking any apps or settings?

I don't know what password to use because I never specified one for the temp pretend user. I went to account. I won't know the real user name until the situation arises where I want to create an actual account for a family member in the future. Restart your device in safe mode and sign in with your original profile. Check to see if your settings and files are restored. Restart your device in normal mode and sign in again with your original profile.

You might need to restart your device more than once. If multiple restarts don't help, try temporarily disabling your antivirus software or any other app that might scan your device during sign-in.

Note: Some antivirus products may have additional components which affect the system and may only be disabled after complete removal and a system reboot. If you continue to experience issues signing in with your original profile, disable Windows Defender services: Open the Services app by typing services in the search box on the task bar and selecting it from the list of results.

Restart your device in normal mode and try to sign in with your original profile. Note: After troubleshooting and resolving the issue, remember to set the Windows Defender services back to Automatic.

If you still can't sign in, try creating a new local administrator account , sign in to that new account, then follow the steps in Fix a corrupted user profile to copy your personal data from the old profile into the newly created one. If you still can't sign in to your profile after these steps, we'd like to know. Please provide feedback using the Feedback Hub app on Windows 11 so that we can investigate the issue.
